01
Match the invitation to the setting
A coastal wedding invitation can use open space, readable type and a simple illustrated focal point without adding beach motifs everywhere. A garden ceremony may call for a softer treatment, while a city reception can suit a restrained layout. Choose the actual design you like; destination labels alone do not establish whether its artwork fits your venue.
- For a waterfront setting, keep the location wording distinct from decorative elements.
- For a garden event, keep fine lettering readable against illustration.
- For a city reception, give the venue and event time a clear place in the layout.
02
Separate ceremony and reception directions
If guests travel between locations, name both places and explain the transition on your details page. A broad “San Diego” label is not enough for arrival instructions. Use the actual city and venue address where appropriate, and confirm parking or transport information directly with your venue.
- State “Reception to follow at [venue]” when the location changes.
- Label guest arrival time separately from the ceremony time.
- Put parking, transport and accessibility arrangements with the practical details.
03
Write for the event guests are attending
A small ceremony followed by a larger party needs different wording from a full-day invitation. If some guests are invited only to the reception, make that explicit. For a destination weekend, provide a separate schedule rather than shrinking the main invitation text to fit every gathering.
- Use reception-only wording when guests are not attending the ceremony.
- Give each weekend event its own location and RSVP instructions.
- Avoid promising a beach ceremony if the confirmed location is indoors or elsewhere.
04
Choose an existing template or a custom request
The studio’s current hand-sketched invitation has an existing venue illustration. You can use its supported editing options for your event wording, but it should not be presented as a San Diego venue drawing. If a specific building or coastal scene matters, ask about custom artwork and confirm the deliverables before ordering.
- Share a venue reference and the pieces you need in a custom request.
- Confirm whether you need a single invitation or coordinating stationery.
- Ask about file size, revision scope and timing; arrange printing separately.
